JUNE FDCPA / TCPA STATISTICS

In June, 1042 cases were filed in US District Courts for alleged violations of the FDCPA and TCPA. This is the third consecutive month that FDCPA/TCPA case totals have exceeded 1000. Case volumes were 2% lower than May’s record totals. Year to date case totals now stand at 5682 representing over 6000 plaintiffs and trending towards 12,000 cases for the calendar year.

For all U.S. District Court filings in June, the five states with the highest filings were California (126), Florida (109), New York (101), Pennsylvania (83), and Texas (70). These five states represent 47% of all the FDCPA/TCPA cases filed in the U.S. and Puerto Rico in US District Courts for the month. Case filings in Colorado, New Jersey, and Illinois should also be noted with sixty-six, sixty-five, and sixty three cases respectively. Plaintiffs filing multiple FDCPA/TCPA lawsuits in June had the heaviest concentration in the following Districts: Colorado, Florida Southern, Florida Middle, California Central, and New York Eastern. On a final note, over 8% of all FDCPA litigation for the month was filed by plaintiffs that resided outside that specific jurisdiction.
